500 hp... best way to go?

Ok, I'm in the market to get a new car and so far ihave looked at an 03-04 s2k, Mazdaspeed miata (i know...), and an 02 WS6. I have a 95 formula that is pretty much stock. If I could get it to do what I want for less I would much rather keep it. I want a 6 speed, turbo, and 500 hp. Does this sound feasible with 20k? I figure 27k is what I would put out with the new cars (including price) to get similar results. oh and the miata and aren's gonna touch 500 hp, but for their weight 350 would be nice.

So your asking if you can make your current formula into a turboed 6 speed 500rwhp car for 20k? I would hope you could, and have a little left to play with.

why not just build a 396 if all you want is 500fwhp? seriously, if you are having to ask this question, you dont need a poweradder. after over 10 years of messing with blowers/turbos on various mustangs i just got tired of it. it takes a lot of work to keep them maintained.

turbos dont require as much maintainence as blowers, but after you run them thru heat cycles after years the exhaust moves around. and its a bitch to reinstall.

a good motor setup will be an anvil. youll never have to mess with it and it wont be any harder to work on (or work around) then the car is stock. i would never run a turbo kit on a 4th gen f-body.

if it were my car, id do a normally aspirated 383 or 396 and build that automatic up.

Well i really don't like the auto that much. I'm not looking for crazy amounts of torque but more top end. I know a turbo will give more torque, but if I got a bigger turbo the lag would be acceptable and would hopefully deliver better up top. I'm not trying to break any quarter mile numbers, I just wanna have fun on my 5o mile commute to school each day. Is there a good reason why a turbo is a bad idea? i was thinking the STS one would be fine with the base boost. Any feedback on that from people who have actually used it?

and you think a big motor with heads cam isnt going to give you a bigger top end charge?!?

dont get me started on that rear mount setup. call Job or Wolfe and ask them about it. if you put a turbo on a high mileage, high compression motor you are asking for trouble if you dont know what you are doing with the tune. if you wanna go that route, you need to get someone who knows what they are doing to build the car for you.

as far as turbo sizing and lag, you arent going to have lag, at least not like people who never have turbos think of as lag. and a properly sized turbo is going to make a lot more then just midrange. as far as the 5 mile commute to school each day, you have to let the turbo (blowers too) warm up before you ream on them or the thermal expansion of the impellar will crash into the unwarm housing. 5 miles will barely get the housing (and oil) warm enough to spool it up without causing damage if you start driving immediatly after startup.
