5.7 or 6.0 rods for my 383

if there any advantage from using one form the other. i know a kit with using 5.7 rods and 1.425 height pistons is cheaper than 6.0 rods and 1.125 pistons

just wondering.

the machinist told me that the 6.0" rods produce more torqe because of the angle that the rods are at when the engine fires.

If you are going to stay NA, then the 6" rods would be better. What your machinist told you is the reason why. But if you are going to be going the forced induction route, then the shorter rods are better from what I understand. But then again, i don't think it matters too much what length you go with on a street setup (I am assuming this is a street car). I went with 5.7" rods on my stroker, just because it was cheaper as a package and it made life easier for everyone since they clearance everything without any extra machine work. I am also going to spray though, so the shorter rods might come in handy then. Good luck.

On a forced induction application, a 6.0" rod shortens the ring pack and sacrifices ultimate ring land strength vs. a 5.7" rod, which is why the shorter rods are more commonly used in blower or nitrous motors.

Ive also heard that 6.0" rods make life "easier" on the engine, since the piston stays at TDC slightly longer or something, just something Ive heard, not sure if its true or not.

5.85" are quite a bit more $$ then 6" though correct?

As I said earlier, the differences will be minimal in a street setup. I would go with whichever you can get the best deal on.

There is no reason you can't. It is a good compromise between 5.7 and 6.0 rods. The only drawback would be a more limited selection of off the shelf pistons.
