do a search on "4L60E to T56 Conversion" and a bunch should pop up. there was one just last week with alot of good info.

i am also considering this switch. there are some places that sell complete kits in the 1,500 dollar range. once you get everything you need, find some good instructions, throw in some patience, and get to work. from what i hear, it's not as bad as you would think.
