4L60E suopse to go into OD@WOT

I have never floored my car past a 110mph I always just take it to redline in 3rd and let off and it shifts into OD.Today I put on my 1.6RR and went up to a 115+ and it shifted into OD @ WOT so I let off.I didnt know if that is a good thing to do or not being such a high gear and pulling that hard.Any imput on this would be great.. I have 3.73 and a 3k stall.but it did shift nice and firm in OD..
Thanks Sean

Yep, it's supposed to do that. That's how you get 145-155 out of an automatic F-car. My C5 with 4L60E and a 3.15 axle doesn't catch 4th (OD) at WOT until north of 140. 3.73s are good gears for top speed. It's probably faster than if you had 3.23s.

Only certain hi-po 4L60Es WOT shift into 4th. I wish my 4.3 pickup would would WOT shift into 4th but it won't. That's probably to keep the truck from reaching it's true top speed.

I was just used to driving my camaro when it was a 700R4 it wouldnt shift into OD @WOT and would down shift out of OD if you matted it no matter if I was doing 65mph or a 130mph but I now have a 6 speed in it so I can floor threw all the gears I might get brave one day and push it to a 150mph just to see if it can but I need to get some Z rated tires before I try that.

Yup yup, that's pretty normal, although sometimes I think mine will hold to 125..???

Slightly related question... my 95 A4 Z with 130k will run right up to redline in 3rd and shift into OD and then hold that no problem. When I had a 94 A4 Z with only 60k on the clock, it would run up to redline in 3rd, then shift into OD, then downshift into 3 and just jump back and forth like that. What was up with that?
