Angry 4L60E Locks into Second at WOT WHY WHY WHY!?

Ok. My trans just started doing this. I had the exhaust done and some other stuff and it was fine but I replaced the coil and wires and it runs beutiful. HOWEVER-

WHen I installed the coil I tried starting it once or twice by accident without plugging in the coil computer wire.

Now I get a SERVICE ENGINE SOON light and it won't go away.

I pulled the fuse and it didn't fix it and I also un-installed any trans HPPIII programming. It STILL LOCKS INTO SECOND!

My father told me that it is a saftey feature in our cars for when tehre is a trouble code but i have no idea. WHat could it be???

My trans works fine in all other aspects.

If anyone has an idea and needs more info please ask I need to figure this out quickly. I can't even get out of second to race someone and have been spanked by toyotas because I had to let off the gas and throw it into overdrive. It sucks!

Maybe the shift speed is set to high in the computer and it will never reach that value (I.el. you'd have to go about 8000 RPM to hit it) so you stay stuck in 2nd.

Maybe a shift solenoid is bad, maybe a band isn't clamping hard enough. Lot of things to check. I'd check the code and start from there.

The trans has been rebuilt once and less then a eyar ago and everything has been fine. Now after doing the wires and coil this happens so I am going to start with the code. How do I check codes? I don't have ascan master or the money to buy one right now. What is the best route. I thought i heard somewhere that at pep-boys they will scan for free... If there is a way to check the code first then I would rather do that. thanks guys
