why do you always have to go with more cubes? wouldn't better bearings, 4 bolt mains etc etc do the job for 7000 rpm?

peace

More cubes simply make getting to 450+rwhp easier, and better bearings will make you bottom end last longer and 4 bolt mains will hold it all together better.

ported AFR LT4s.....$3000
ported LT4 intake/tb.....$400
custom grind cam.....$300
valvetrain (rr;s, springs etc)....$500
hyrdarevkit............$250
bigger injectors.......$300
bigger fuel pump....$200

should be 450rwhp, and thats $5000....
No offense bud (I like your input on the board) but i have to disagree with you on this one.
Most people are seeing around 400rwhp with a real good proper setup on stock cubes. I dont see going to afr heads and picking up say 25 cfm @600 (peaking around say 310cfm) gaining another 50rwhp... maybe hit 43Xrwhp...

JMHO, but heck he could try it and see

Personally I think the only way to hit 450+rwhp on a LT1 is to go with a 383 or 396. 350 isn't enough cubes with the heads your working with.

its already been done!

452 rwhp N/A stock bottom end LT1 with worked over AFR LT4 195's by Eric Bradby (E.B. Porting) and a custom cam from Joe Overton Lethal EFI Performance

with the stock castings you wont see much over 400rwhp at best, but the AFR's have 450rwhp potential when ported by the right person, and i really believe the custom cam route is the way to go.

FWIW, you can make 450rwhp with an aggressive HR with around 290 peak cfm, so it doesnt take anything magical. Of course.. you could get pretty close with a more aggressive grind & a ported LT1 head methinks. I think the problem is that alot of people have an aversion to RPM - hence the constant stroker talk . RPM = power however, and IMO aside from low/midrange the stroker isnt going to do much other than put even more emphasis on what most lack - cylinder head.

If I were trying to make 450rw, I'd probably pick up some used LT4 castings (or afr's), have them fully ported & run a decent solid .

for 7500 i can get you a 406 sbc complete from demon car to pan.. electric water pump to flex plate.. comes with a plate style nitrous kit.. motor has 6 passes... ran 9.27@147 in a 3200lb car.. 300 shot tunned way on the safe side.. probably another 10th or so if you want to run a less safe tune.

i think the problem is people are willing to spend money on a stroker kit, but when it comes to heads, they half-*** it.

Thumbs up

Don't bother with the LTCC. I heard theres still bugs with it and you really dont have a need for it.

Definitly go with Phil porting them. He's the man

For 7 grand it can be done. You just have to be smart and check the forsale section of this forum for some parts.

I got a 4500.00 built 383 Forged Motor for 2050.0 NEW plus my old motor as a trade in the forsale section of Z28.com. I got my blower for only ~2,300 new from Lonnie Pavtis. And bought a used 2 core intercooler for 250.00. I got my coated Longtubes headers and Y-pipe for like 400 bucks used. And Bryan at PCMforless personally street tuned my car for 150 bucks. These are just some of the parts I got in great shape in the forsale section so you get the idea (you can check out the link in the sig to see what else I have done). After I fix my header leak, change plugs and get a new Ypipe with no cats, I will have Bryan DYNO tune my car with WideBand o2 and I am sure it will be close to ~450RWHP give or Take 15-20HP.

Also I sold a lot of my old parts that I pulled off the car to off-set the price of the final cost.

So it can be done...
Thx,
Claude

Just saying that you could probably achieve big numbers with "stuff" but I believe reliability would certainly be a factor.

I wouldn't even put that much HP on a 2-bolt.
Seems like it would be a worth while effort to go with bigger displacement, bullet proof bottom end. Matched heads and cam, good solid valve train, incl. tit retainers.

I guess, I'd sooner aim for 500 RWHP and settle for less, than to aim for 450 and wind up with less and be dissappointed with spending all that money on something that might go "poof" after a couple of runs.JMHO

just for humor's sake
what exactly is a "tit retainer"

I think it can be done on stock heads with a good working over, but I dont think that the cam is right. Somthing smaller, though, with more lift.
