450 rwhp out of a 383

just what the name says i want to build a 383 with 450 rwhp on my car. i have about 5-6000 dollars. for parts, and machin work. i can do all the installs and building. do i need a 4 bolt bottem end or can i run a two bolt. also what cam should i run. i was thinking cc306 or the gm 847. could i do this with stock head castings with a p and p job by loyled elieot. and bigger springs and valves. also on pump gas. if i could i would like close to 500 hp.

I doubt that you'll get anywhere close to that without some juice or boost. JMHO

Good custom cam, well ported heads, I can see it happening on a dyno jet. Sar2K hit near that on h/c with an auto all in the set up, it'll be easier with a six speed. Rick made 42xrwhp back in the day on home ported heads, 383 and a CC306 in his six speed 96, trapped a 122 easy. Its doable I would lean more towards a custom grind and great tuning.

If you are going to get lloyd to port your heads, i think he will do a cam to match the heads for you. Someone correct me if i am wrong.

It can be done, I have a LT4 intake that is fully ported by West Coast Cylinder head, it is what you need with some ported LT4 or AFR heads. You will need a minumum of 280 CFM of cylinder head IMO to achieve that number, which will be 540 or so flywheel hp. If you can do it for $6k it will be a feat no doubt normally aspirated.

Cast steel crank and you'll save some cash, scat claims their cast steel 9000 series is good to 700 hp. I havent had any problem with my Eagle cast steel crank as far as power goes, trapped 115.4 mph in a 3700+ auto loaded T/A.

Go with some scat H-beams and SRP forged pistons, shoot for around 11 to 1 compression.

Heads will need to flow like said before at least 280 cfm on the intake side to have a fudge factor to your advantage. You can get LT1 heads ported to flow this, but the runner volume of a 210 AFR will help even more with the big cubes.

Definately get a custom cam from a guy thats built cams for this type of engine and car.

383s make so much drive around torque you'll wonder why anyone ever puts a 350 in a street car....lol

Not a big problem to do what you want and you are in the ballpark estimating around $6k. You can do it with a bolt block using ARP main studs. The LT1 is a really strong block and will not distort the mains at the 500-550 flywheel horsepower range. AFR or well ported LT4 heads can make it happen. Even a set of very well ported LT1 stock heads can do it. Cam in the range of 235-240 @ .050 with a ton of lift and a matching computer.

Let me be a bit more specific. If you plan on taking this block and building a 383 with 450 RWHP with 5-6, it is MY opinion that it ain't gonna happen.

Sure, it can be done. I sure as heck would use a 4-bolt main and a 12-bolt rear.

I'm trying it as we speak, and I think I'll do it for under $6k.

i think i can do it for under 6 grand. i am doing all the labor. only thing i am paying for is machine work and parts. i am installing and i am building it. i am new to the lt1 engine. i found a 4 bolt main lt1 block for 200 dollars that i am buying to build. i think i can do it and i will try to meet my goals.
