is 4000 stall to high?
I just bought a 94 Z28 with a 4000 stall convertor in it.... i was told this is too big... it eats gas like no other and i use it for mostly street use...... it has headers, intake, pcmforless, comp cam, rebuilt tranny with TCI parts and a shift kit, when i race the car it spins like crazy i can keep it from spinning ( i have nitto drag radials) someone told me because of the 4000 stall and that a 2600 would benefit me more with the current mods... someone help me out

A 4000 stall WILL NOT shift with OBD1 computers when you get a good sticky launch, unless you have full manual valve body. Thats problem one. Ill let others discuss benefits of different stall speeds, STRs etc

Thats more than likely your tranny clutches are shot and needs rebuild. VERY common with 4l60e transmissions.
The no shift comes on the 1-2 shift because the car revs faster than the computer can keep up with, and it goesinto a default shift mode, or shifts from 1st to 3rd until you key off and reset the computer.

okay well unless this guy is lying to me he said the tranny was just rebuilt 7k miles ago with TCI parts. but it shifts hard and fine from 1st to 2nd just from 2nd to 3rd it does that crap and hits the limiter......

It might of been rebuilt but with the 4000 stall could of killed the 2-3 on the car already. That is one of the main weak points on that trans.
Is it to high? It totally depends on what yo u want to do with the car, do you want to race it alot or do you want to daily drive it? A 3200 area would be more suitable.

And yes the high stall shift problem can affect all shifts.

Hes never going to have the shift problem unless he has sticky tires on it or is just whitesmoking them.
Why is it going to affect all shifts, makes no sense.

I don't know. But my trans would not shift at all, with a 3200 vig. Bryan tried to fix it, with no luck. Then Madwolf messed with it a bit. Still no luck.
I was beginning to think it was my trans. But then I bought tunercat and started playing with it. And after a lot of trial and error. I got my trans shifting beautifully.
Even with a dead hook, launching on nitrous.
