Bone stock, right after I bought the car, and no idea of the state of tune I ran 14.2 at 98 mph with a 2.1 60 ft. Technically "275 hp" stock factory rating. Weighing in at 3648 pounds with me in it.

Full exhaust cut-out closed, intake, tune, gears, shift kit, new street tires (Bridgestone Potenza 750's), and a set of lower control arms without relocation brackets, I ran 13.3 @ 105.17 with a 1.9 60 ft. If you go by my weight and trap speed technically I should be in the area of 320-330 hp at the crank. But I don't really believe I have that much. HP and TQ numbers mean nothing, track times are the only thing that tell you how fast you are.

Edit: I potentially could pull off 12.9's with slicks and a good launch in good weather. It really doesn't take that much to get into the 12's with these cars. But my goals are different than yours, I want to go as fast as I can go without weight reduction and without slicks.

very good book...just touches on LT1's at the end but the bottom end is the same anyway....it will help you understand terms and what the function of each piece in the engine's purpose is....good read for what 13 bucks

I am reading this stuff and wondering. My wifes 96 WS-6 ran 13.7 @101 stock. My question is I have converted to OBD1, BBK headers, BBK 52mm TB, 1.6 Crane gold SA RR and madz tune have been added since. What do you guys think it will run this year. That is with Nitto 555's. I was thinking mid 13's

Worry about speed, not a HP number.

if you can drop a stall in with some gears will that not make your car faster?

how about a little weight reduction?

400 hp flywheel?

with all the bolt ons, and I mean ALL, and in a great state of tune, is it that far off?

kooks headers with open exhaust
LS1 style air intake
1.7:1 roller rockers with upgraded springs (considered a bolt on by some)
58mm throttle body with intake manifold holes bored to match
electric water pump
run no accessory drive belt
extensive tuning on an ENGINE dyno

Why couldn't something like that hit 380+ flywheel hp?

I have a bone stock 96 z/28, no headers just a 150 shot of nitrous, 160 degree therm, drag radials, and went to houston Raceway park on friday night street night (track prep was marginal) and ran 12.20s. Jegs or Summitt can hook you up for about 800 bones.

yeah I was thinking the same thing, the OP never said RWHP just HP so technically I think you can get close to 400HP from a bolt-on LT1, and if anyone want's to pay for the dyno session I would gladdly try...

My car when I bought it made 329RWHP with bolt ons, ran 12.60@110.

It had EVERY bolt on including a tune through a six speed.Had a stock throttlebody and maf.

With manual steering, no a/c, underdrive pulley, FULL synthetics throughout. I could see the 400 hp mark being pushed.

Go to your local bookstore and pick up book called "How to Build Horsepower." There is a Vol. 1 and 2.

This is an excellent place to learn the basics and start understanding the functions of different parts (including cams).

He may have "heard" of a 97 LT4 Firehawk or SS making 400 flywheel HP with just bolt-ons. That would be possible, but it's not gonna happen on a stock LT1.
