Re: 4 or 2???

There's two pre-cat o2 sensors, i think they should be around the collector's on the headers and then i guess ( I've never seen under a 96+) there's two more after the cat. So there's defintly four.

in 96+ there are two cats so it needs one after each cat*

It could be 96-97 and have only the front sensors if it's an "export" car like mine, but regardless of that if you're installing an aftermarket y-pipe with no cats then there's no point of getting the rear sensors. You either have to program them out or fix o2 sims, that's if it's not an "export".

To try to make this perfectly clear you need 2 for each cat (one pre, one post). You can substitute a O2 SIM for the post only if you choose.

So,
93-95 1 cat = 2
96-97 2 cats = 4

Re: 4 or 2???

STOCK 97's have four (two pre and two post Cat. O2 sensors). However some headers for the 97's convert the system to a single Cat. In which case you use the two preCat. sensor and program out the aft ones or get O2 sims. for the aft ones.

Re: 4 or 2???

Good point, my post was consideringly only STOCK setup.

PS - I see you're in Friendswood, TX. My friends and I had a huge laugh because there's a "Gay Pontiac" on the frontage road right around "Friendswood Blvd" or something like that.

We found it hilarious!

Gay has had a dealership down here for some time. Just a few miles south on I-45 AKA the Gulf Freeway. You know what they say, "you don't get to chose your last name".

P.S. When your introduced he put out his hand and says, "howdy I'm Gay".

Re: 4 or 2???

Yah, but you do have a choice in location if you're named that. And to put it near "Friends Wood" is a bad idea
