Question 4.10s in a stock 7.5

First off sorry I really did try the search but didn't exactly what I was looking for. I would love to put some 4.10s or 4.11s in my 96 T/A. However I don't have 2500 or so for a rearend if it wouldn't hold. I would get possible Gm Motive since they are actually 4.11s and supposedly more durable and an install kit. If installed probably and I avoided any dumping or side-stepping of the clutch would it hold. The worst I would do is the occasional launch on street tires...and mainly just hammering it from roll. Thanks for the opinions!

honestly it's a roll of the dice. i know guys running high gears in 7.5s and they hold up to all kinds of abuse and i know others that have gone through many sets of gears. i personally have 3.73s in my car and no problems as of yet.

I'm on my second set. My first set lasted for about 70,000 miles until I heard the dreaded "clunk clunk clunk". YMMV. It's a great mod for 6 speeds, though.

I'm used GM Motives and the new ones are also GM Motives. No racing, lots of highway driving. The 70,000 miles included at least one 3rd to 2nd mis-shift.

also how much stronger is the 3.90 over the 4.10? I would be doing the occasional run on the street . I prefer going from a roll..so I would only go from a stop when I couldn't pass the chance.

Where did you find a 3.90 for a 7.5" rear, and who makes it?

I just took for granted that they made them. Now I see they don't .

Its often then desired road racer gear, but I likewise haven't seen it on 7.5" setup, so they go 3.73s.

Ok...I just talked to David, who will start doing any of my work on the ol T/A. I have decided to go with 4.10's and take the chance. I'm gonna talk to him Wed...when I take it up to get the Hooker cat-back put on, and the throttle body bypass mod done. I'm thinking I'm going with Richmond 4.10's. I realize they are somewhat noisy but they are the strongest from what I've heard. Am I making a mistake?

well, most people will recommend Motive Gear over Richmond...I've heard of too many people having issues with Richmond gears to be able to recommend them...

BTW your not really paying someone to do the throttle body bypass are you? Sort of defeats the purpose of a "free mod"

HAHA...unfortunately I really am paying someone to do the TB bypass . I'm just mechanically inclined that's all. Where's the cheapest place to get Motive's? Also do they make an install kit as well??
Thanks

even the monkeys at your average GM dealership could handle a TB bypass, I'm sure you could too

When I got my motive gears, the shop purchased an install kit as well, so theres one out there somewhere...no clue where to go though. Might wanna do a search on the internet or at the big names (summit, Jegs, etc)
