4:10 or 3:73 from 3:42???

I currently have 3:42 gears in my 95 TA. You can see all my mods in my signature. I was wondering what the best gear ratio would be for me? I find I really have to slip my clutch on launches. I am hoping to bring my usable power a little farther down the rpm band with lower gears. Would 4:10s be too low? I think my car has to work too hard now on the highway in 6th gear...my fuel efficience was horrible. I went from 25mpg to 18mpg. Any thoughts????

If I were you I would think about the future. If you are going to run a high reving N/A stroker I would be tempted to go with 4.10's. If you are going to run a heads/cam 350 I would also go with 4.10's. I am currently building a TT 383, so I went with 3.73s in a Moser 12-bolt. I probably should have stuck with 3.42s tho in hindsight....

That about sums it up. If you plan on a power adder...don't go above 3.73's (IMO). I was sorry that I went 4.10's....and they higher the ratio the more chance for problems (shifting alot more).

I had my 3.42s switched out with 4.10s. I figured that either way, hooking was going to be difficult.

RPMs about 2K at 70MPH in 6th, but at least you still have some power in that 2nd OD.

You will find that you will be in 5th gear most of the time.

But I decided that I might as well increase my tq by 20% compared to 9% with the 3.73s if I was going to do anything.

Bottom line, if you plan on hard launches with an M-6 , 4.10s and slicks you'd be well advised to get a 12 bolt or 9" rear end.JMHO
