Re: 396 HP Numbers

Heads matter more than cubes, and many folks don't understand this I am very sure there are guys with under 350rwhp and guys up around 450rwhp. "Good heads" is not what most newbies think they are either no need to go aftermarket as the aftermarket has more junk heads for this motor than good ones.

Re: 396 HP Numbers

I have a 396 stroker (Golen short-block) w/ AFR 195 LT4 heads (12.2-1 C/R), GM LT4 intake, Comp XFI cam w/ beehive springs, 1.6 RRs and PCMforLess programming. And all the other basic performance parts; Meziere EWP, Kooks headers, 3200stall, 3.73s, Etc.

The first time at the track it went 11.55 @ 117.49, all N/A. Using one of the online calculators, that would be around 430 to 450 RWHP. It has not been on a dyno.

Re: 396 HP Numbers

My 396 laid down 421 RWHP through the mufflers with a 12.1 AFR, a 9 inch rear, and a really inefficient converter unlocked. I got 11.10 @ 121 until I got an ATI converter and 58mm tb. Yesterday the car went 10.73 @ 126.8. I also got the air fuel leaned to 12.8 so I have to be in the 460-470 range converter unlocked now I would say.

Thunder Valley (NHRA track) at Noble Oklahoma it is around 1200 ft using my GPS.

I also have a Holley 58MM TB and Vigilante 9.5" 3200 stall. Next I'm looking at a 12 bolt read-end w/ 4.10 gears and 28" x 11.50 slicks. Hopefully that will put me down in the low 11s.

Re: 396 HP Numbers

GTP LT1 casting, 188cc intake, ~270cfm
LaZer custom grind, 222/228 .544/.538 112
dyno'd 423/447 through a T56/10 bolt
best was 11.62 @ 119 (1.57) NA (700r4 and 12 bolt)

Most of the stroker LT1 I know of are in the 400-430 hp range with 4-450 tq.
Solid Roller setup with big cc heads can pull 450-500+.
The limiting factors on the LT1 are the heads and intake.

In the near future I will be doing before and after dyno sessions with Port Pro's TFS casting heads and single plane intake.

you will have to convert a carb style sbc intake to fit the LT1
I am looking at the Edelbrock EFI series that will be ported/converted by Port Pros

Man Chopstix, not to be mean but your limiting factor is that RV cam you are running. Before you go spend the money on single planes and that, put a cam in that thing for God's sake!
