383 What?

Heres the deal, i have a 96 Z28, and Im planning on doing the 383 stroker motor.I really don't know anywhere else to find out what im getting myself into. Can anyone tell me how much money im looking to spend to get the motor the way i want. all i want is a ballpark. And also if anyone knows of any sites I can look at for short block. I want to keep my EFI, and would rather find and build a motor out of the car (Leaving my factory motor in) and just pulling out and swapping in. ANY setups you guys favor, im all ears to. I also want the car to be as streetable as possible. I appologize for my lack of knowledge about this topic... im just trying to get started going in the right direction.

thanks

Absolutely check out Victory Racing Engines. They build top notch stuff.

Also, you may have better luck with this in the LT1 Tech Section. I'll move it there.

add to your list of potential builders, (and forum supporting vendor), Golen Engine Service

This is a top notch shop with very attractive prices. I've been to the shop and it's well organized, clean, modern machine equipment, very skilled techs. Huge parts inventory. They have their sort block and long block building systems down pat to reduce potential errors and oversights. They have a neat peer check system for motor assembly, (quality control). Good people to deal with.

I'm biased quite a bit in favor of Golen because I buy fully machined LT1 blocks from them quite requently. All 8 that I have purchased have been perfect.

Both site have long blocks ready to drop in...you have to swap your intake oil pan and sensors.

You would have to do that anyway.......I would call those guys and they can help you alot over the phone ...they need to know the direction you want to go in, then once they have that can steer you the right way

My suggestion is to buy a completed short block. It'll be cheaper in the long run unless you plan on building the motor yourself. If you do the stroker, don't forget the cylinder heads. Those alone will easily top $2k. In addition, the supporting mods are a killer-BTDT. (injectors, fuel pump, tuning, drivetrain, etc) If you have an auto, you'll need "stall", etc, etc.

A large part of the cost will be the quality of components you select, also. Do you want top quality forgings?

well heres the deal the car is sitting at my parents house, and i really dont have any other place to take it to work on it (anyone that i trust anyway) and i also have a mother that goes nuts when theres a drop of oil on her floor, so that why i was hoping to find a complete ready to drop in motor. I guess what i really wanted was a place to order a 383 ready to go with all the parts i wanted on it already, kinda like a 383 buffet, just tell em what you want n they ship it to you...lol and yes I would want top quality forgings.
