Re: 383 up and running but vibrating bad, maybe flywheel related

Edit* new 383 ate dipstick!! pic below

Drove only 30 miles so far but the engine runs great! no codes no leaks, good oil pressure and low temps. Feels like all the power is there. Only thing is at idle, everything inside my car shakes. and at 3000+ rpm, it starts vibrating pretty bad from the floor.

I have the mcleod steel flywheel thats neutrally balanced and the motors internally balanced. My mechanic was having some trouble getting the starter to mesh with the new flywheel. Ill be mad if he put the stock one back and didnt tell me. I dont think I should have this much vibration I think somethings wrong.

Im thinking he might have put the original back in. If it was balanced and a neutral balanced flywheel it shouldnt give vibration.

that fu****. I've had more trouble from a-hole mechanics than u could imagine. Today I just put back the air filter after driving for awhile. Turns out the mechanic never put it on to begin with.

Wow.... you should ask for some money back. Whatever you do.... dont take it back to him. Just get someone from your area to come help you. The f-body community will help you out!

If the engine is internally balanced, and you are using the stock flywheel, then thats your problem. The stock flywheel is counter weighted, you will have to knock off the counter weights to get rid of the vibration. Its made this way becasue the stock short block is Not internally balanced.

First thing I would do is call them and say WTF... tell them what is going on and what you found and talk to the manager... If it is a small shop and you were working with the owner then tell him he needs to fix everything because this is crap. If they won't work with you keep good records and go somewhere else to get it fixed and sue their as$es...
