383 stroker?
 

i was wondering if there are special rods that have to be used in order to avoid using a small cirlce based cam. i have heard that someone makes them and was wondering if anyone is using them or know of where to get them. i am not using a complete stroker kit because i bought the crank off of a buddy of mine.

Personally I have not seen a 383 that required special rods to clearance the cam. My 383 has Oliver billet rods and there is no cam clearance issues. Even Nu-tek will tell you these are some of the biggest rods you can buy but still don't have cam issues. They do however have block clearance issues which most rods in a 383 do. I had to obviously clearance the block at the oil pan rails and at the base of the cylinders. Remember to give them a minimum of .060 clearance.

I have used both kinds of eagle rods (H and I beam) on a 383 and neither had interference problems with an over .500 lift cam.
I have seen stock rods need to have the head of the rod bolt clearanced for the bigger cams in a 383.

for a budget 383 could i use the stock rods without any clearance problems?

I would definatley have it all checked. I know that over .500 lift on some of the stock rods will hit.

Would using 230/236 with the stock rods work even if they machine the rods for clearance.

If they clearance the rods you will have no problems.

For a fact, the Eagle 6" H-Beams will not hit... even if you go with a 396 (3.875 stroke).

I have an XE 230/236 with Eagle H-rods.

No clearance problems at all.

I was thinking about going with a cam with more lift actually.
