383 Questions, please advise...

Well, I was going to do a heads/cam swap on my 94 LT1 Trans Am. Since then, I have got this crazy idea that I am going to go with a stroker + heads/cam

Well, I have been doing some research, but still have some unanswered quesitons.

Here is a quick list of my mods:
3.73 gears
Fully built A4 with a SS3600 Yank stall
Hooker Longtubes + 3inch True Duals
K&N FIPK

Well, I have a set of unmolested LT4 heads and intake manifold that I was going to have ported for my 350 bottom end.

My first question is, Can a stock set of LT4 heads be ported/worked over enough to support a 383 bottom end?

I also have a 233/239 .569/.577 111lsa Combinaiton Motorsports cam in my room that was going to go into my 350 bottom end.

My next question is, Will this cam be sufficient for a 383? If not, then what cam would you suggest with a LT4 ported top end and my other mods?

Lastly, How do strokers do with automatic transmissions? is this going to be a problem area for me?

Thanks guys and I am sure I will have a ton more questions regarding this.

The heads would work once opened up, in my opinion that cam would be ok....there might be better options out there but if your are trying to save money it would work. And I really don't know for sure about an A4 stroker, but I have never heard of anything that said it won't work. Hope this helps a little.

SO would the ideal cam to go with in this setup, be a custom grind? My little brother has a 95 Formie that the 233/239 cam could go into. He has already offered to buy me another different grind cam and take the 233/239.

Depends on what the heads flow. Once the heads are done, it would be best to send the flow sheet to an engine designer/builder, and they will recommend a cam profile designed to meet your goals.

Get your LT4's ported and have a cam matched for the application. The LT4's will work great on a 383

Cool, Well Jordon Musser is going to go all out on these heads/intake.

So who would you guys recommend to do a custom cam? Do you normally go with a performance shop (Combination Motorsports), or an individual like Joe Overton?

Thanks
And I just found a LT1 block (4 bolt mains) from a 96 Vette I am going to purchase for the build up.

As far as your transmission goes, if its built it shouldnt have a problem at all.

It was definately given a "race rebuild" but I don't know just how good he did. Let's say that the tranny I have now goes out after 6 months (knocks on wood), would it be better with this much horsepower/torque to rebuild the 4L60-E again or is it time to go to like a TH-350/400?

Thanks

A properly built 4L60-E will handle it so, if it was me I would have it rebuilt. Especially if this will see much street duty or if money isnt an issue go Turbo 400 with a gear venders.

This car will definately be a street/strip car. I don't believe in building them to sit in the garage.
Just any ol turbo 400 would bolt up?
