Question 383 questions

I need help.I want to build a stroker motor but I cannot decide on what rotating assembly and heads I want to go with. I do not really have a budget becasue I want it to last. I was interested in AFR 195 LT4 heads but I have heard bad comments about them relating to water jackets for the LT1 motors. Then I was leaning towards a set of LT4 heads but I have read that the cylinder wall become very thin and weak once they are thoroughly ported.
I have seen all kinds of kits for LT1's but I do not know what kit will be the most durable. I know callies has a kit and Lunati also offer parts. Can anyone suggest a assembly that can support a 6-800 hp daily driver. If you can get me part numbers that would be great. It must be an assembly that can run off 91 gas and it must be blower and NOS friendly.I would like to use a 5.850 rod. Thanks

The only way you are gonna see a 600hp "daily driver", let alone an 800hp beast is with forced induction. You need to decide it it's gonna be nitrous, a blower, or both before getting too specific about parts. But in general, there is a large variety of bottom end parts available because they are just regular SBC items. Callies, Lunati, and Scat make great cranks and rods. Carillo and Crower are good sources for rods. JE, Ross, Diamond, and BME are well known for pistons. There are others.

Heads are specific to the LT1, unless you want to start modifying heads for a Gen I SBC, which my be a good route for extremely high hp. Otherwise, the AFR is the way to go, especially for forced induction/nitrous.

Back to "daily driver" and budget. You are talking $20-30,000 to put into the car. Maybe more. If it gets stolen pr wrecked, you will never get close to this out of it. Even going to great lengths to keep it pleasant to drive, an 800hp daily driver is kind of an oxymoron. OTOH, 600rwhp blower cars are pretty common. That's probably where you should go. Keep in mind that each incremental increase in hp and performance costs 2-3X the previous increment and becomes harder and harder to keep it a nice driver. The issue isn't just making the hp, it's supporting it with a fuel system, transmission/clutch, drive shaft and rear end, chassis and brakes, etc.

And one other thing. It's not gonna happen on 91 octane. Not 800hp anyway.

Good luck. Think over your goals and budget carefully. Ask a lot of qustions, but try to make them more focussed and you will get more useful answers.

I think a fairly "streetable" daily driver could had with 600hp (at the flywheel i'm assuming?) with forced induction.
396 + 10lbs with propper heads/cam should be close.

I do agree with rich on the fincial aspect though.
Everything will break with that kind of power. Youre looking chromoly driveshaft into 9'' with a t-56 or TH400 with a 12 bolt.

Tons of chassis reinforcement as well.

A point rich missed is the reliabilty factor. First off, this thing is going 45k miles ABSOLUTE tops IMHO.

2nd- i wouldn't worry about the heads just randomly cracking. If your going to fail something- its going ot be in the valvetrain or (more likely) bottom end.. nearings, rods, oil, rings....

you need to re-evaluate your goals and restrictions

Can't you build a sort of "stock" type 383 giving the increase in HP and some longevity? It will not give you 800HP but I think a stock motor with a right combo would be the best bet for the wallet and the track.
