383 + mildly ported heads = which cam?

I am doing a 383 build right now and I'm curious about suggestions on cam:
OBDI Impala - 4400 lbs
Mildly ported 561 head with 2.02/1.60 valves - 1.6 GMPP rockers
Comp R lifters
58MM TB
Afterburner headers - no cats - cutouts - 2.5" dynomax cat back
3.73's
2500 rpm stall
150 to 300 shot of nitrous - start with 150 dry and move to dual stage direct port setup over the next few months, 200 1st stage - 100 2nd stage

I currently have this cam:
Street-Strip 125+HP Nitrous needs converter, gears, choppy idle
Dur@.050 224-236 | Lift .503-.521 | LSA 114 | RPM Range 2000-6200

Is this cam "big" enough?

I've been asking around but I wanted to open this up to discussion.

Thanks guys,

Mike

I got the GM Hot Cam...

Works good I think, probably could go a little hotter.

Try the gm 847 cam 234/242 and 575/595 with a 1.6 rr on a 112 lobe sep. I just put this cam in my car and it feels real strong untuned but it will be tuned this weekend on the dyno...I could let you know dyno#s if you are interested

The 383 will make a large cam look mild. If you are going naturally aspirated, many are having success with the Comp Cams CC306. I've had a few take the Crower Cam route... Stage 3 but I can't remember the model number. It has very good duration and the LSA is 114.

For N2O, just go with a bigger N2O cam. You'll find that the choppy idle will go away a bit with the 383.

go to www.cmotorsports.com and get one of their custom grinded cam.

With that setup, u could go pretty aggressive. Using the hotcam or even the 306 would be like trying to drink water through an eyedropper.

the GM Hot Cam is as "mild" as I would go..

It is very mild in a 383.

HE has this cam now...
Street-Strip 125+HP Nitrous needs converter, gears, choppy idle
Dur@.050 224-236 | Lift .503-.521 | LSA 114 | RPM Range 2000-6200

Why would he degrade to the hotcam?

the hot cam has a better lsa too.

his 114 is more like a stock lsa, but it does have better duration.

If he wasnt planning on spraying it so much, I would say that the 224/236/112 XE grind would suit him well. Buddy has this cam in his 383 and it makes great power and BIG torque.

OK, it looks like I'll be sticking with my current cam for now. Once I change heads to something meatier then I will go solid roller....

FYI the hotcam is considerably milder than my cam

Agreed. Don't just go with a CC306 "because people have luck with them".

Depending on how ported your heads are, best bet is to get them flowed, then call up combinationmotorsports (url was given), tell them what you've got, what you want, what the requirements are, and get something there CUSTOM to what you need. They've got a Cam/Comp Pro Mag RR/springs/locks/retainer package for $589 that may interest you as well.

Good luck! I'd hate to run into that Impala!

Dave, I know Seth and Sam personally....

That cam is from them and was meant for my stock shortblock and ported heads...
