383 and lt4 cam

When i rebuild my engine i plan to install a 383 crank, i wanted to go to a forged crank for piece of mind, so why not a 383. i have stock heads which i plan to port and polish myself, 1.6rr, mac headers and cat. i may change to slp headers in the furure. morroso cai, i will bore out my throttle bottle. 2800 stall, cat back. probably go with 2.02/1.56 valves. i have an a4, and probably go with 3.42 rearend. i will be adding a 200-250 dp nitrous, but i want the cam to be setup for street driving because the track in 1 1/2 hours away and i won't get there very often. i will never rev above 6500. i know that the cam is not the highest performance for my setup but i want it to very streetable, and pass emissions without a problem if i ever move to a state with testing. is this cam a good choice or is there a better choice for my goals?
Thanks for any input

the LT4 hot cam correct? yes that will be a very street friendly cam, you will want a 2800 stall also which is also very streetable.

yes the hotcam, i already have a 2800 stall. i was just wondering if it was way too small? like less than a stock cam on a 350.

Look at my sig. I basically got what your looking at aside from the shot. I had a custom TC built and they recommended a 2400 stall. The car runs great and at times I actually feel the Hotcam is a lil big for everyday driving but then again ..... its perfect. I'll go bigger when I get another car.

thanks s.j.s. that is around what i was looking for, it's not a daily driver, i have a bonneville for that. qckz28, i have done a lot of searching, just about everybody that goes with a 383 has aftermarket heads and i don't care to spend the extra money on them, and i don't know if that would make the hotcam a bad choice, i'm not a cam expert and i am trying to get final opinions before i finalize my part list. but thanks for the input.

my xe224/230 on a 112 is very streetable, i drove the car to cincinnati OH, a 5 hour drive nonstop (except to get gas) and the car did fine. 3.73 gears and a 2800 stall.

i would recommend it over the hotcam personally, but im biased.

but if everything goes good this season i should run high 11s only 350ci with my very streetable car

as far as emissions....the HC is about as big as you can go without close to, or any problems. As for heads....if your gonna stay with stock ones then even more the reason to go with the hotcam because to get any real gains out of a cam you need some good flowing heads. I ported and polished mine myself with the help of Vince (97ZM6), John (fastzintennesse), Phil and Lloyd. Still cost me an extra 400 for the bigger valves and valve grind. Oh yeah..not to mention the 49 hours of manual labor for the P&P job.

good luck

A buddy of mine has that cam in his car with stock heads(stock bottom end, unported heads). I swear it idles just as smooth, if not smoother, than the hotcam. And makes more power everywhere in the powerband. wierd

havent had a chance to take it too the tracks yet. The last sat I had a chance to I thought I had some loose rockers. Turned out to be loose header bolts. I will take it too the track in late February when I rotate off weekends. I will definately let you know. Just make sure to remind me. .
