383 le3

im looking to buy an impy SS and its got this under the hood. wondering what kinda power itll make. Its got headers, exhaust and all the supporting mods.

-383 Stroker motor built by Hangar 18 Performance (300 miles on it)
-Trickflow Aluminum LT1 Heads ported by Lloyd Elliot (Level 3) w/ a matching cam.
-Bee Hive Valve Springs from Comp Cams
-1.6 Self Aligning Rocker Arms
-Holley Stealth Ramjet intake
-42lb injectors
-LS1 Ignition Set up w/ a coil pack per cylinder (LTCC setup)
-3.5’ Mass Air Flow Sensor


its a 383 with an LE3 heads and cam.

the cam is an LE3 cam?

yea its an LE3 heads cam, with a holly stealt ram intake..
The heads are trickflow

he had all the work done and paid it all off, and he lost his job..he said his company downsized..i didnt pry cuz it aint my buisness, but its obviously possible with the condition of the economy..i researched this guy on the forum that im looking at it on, and hes well known and this is the second motor combo hes done with the car.

I have to wonder about the SA rocker arms. I'm sure that's something that Lloyd did not recommend.

If the cam was spec'd to peak around 6300rpm(very possible with a HR 383) then there would be nothing wrong with running SA rockers.

Could you point me in the direction that your getting your info from? I'd like to read up on this.

There's nothing wrong with running SA rockers. There was even a study that showed SA rockers had the same/better valvetrain stability as NSA rockers up to a certain RPM range. I'll see if I can dig up the source, it was in a Hot Rod magazine a while back. They also did a flat tappet versus roller test as well in the same issue.

many people overcomplicate things and upgrade to a valvetrain that isn't warranted
