Question 383 help

ive just built a lt1 355. i have flat top mahle pistons new stock rods/crank. i found a guy with a new 383 crank he is willing to let go very cheap (link below is the same crank). my motor is complete oil pan to intake but would realy like to make it a 383 if i can just pull the oil pan and remove the crank and use all my other parts (rods ,pistons, ect.)

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ESP-10352375057E/

my main concern is ive never messed with a 383 so can i just swap cranks or what is the biggest part to doing this? thanks

No, you can't. The piston you have are designed with a 3.48" stroke so they have the pin placement pretty far down from the top. If you put a 3.75" stroke crank in there, the pistons would be above the deck height at TDC. (that means they'd stick out of the bores by about a quarter inch). At a minimum you'll need new pistons/rings to go with a 383. Then you need some more machine work on the block to clear the rotating assembly. You'll be starting over, basically.

Also, if you're building a performance engine, don't go with a cast crank....

Re: 383 help

He's right about the pistons and block, and that crank isn't a very good one, either, so I agree with everything said in the above post.. You will probably be happy with your 355 anyway.
