383 Guys, how did you keep your compression ratio down?!? Having trouble...

No arguements there bro.

You do have to admit that it sounds like Dave's guiding the engine builder instead of the other way round. A builder who would even contemplate using a .064 quench height on a performance build... well that makes me wonder.

Yeah you're right about that Mindgame, I shouldn't be the one doing the math. If I knew what I was doing I might build it myself. I will definitely build the next one myself. At least it'll have a 1 year warranty. I don't think I'm doing too bad for someone who's just learning this crap But, I trust no one with my money.

I'm still trying to figure out why he ordered the flat tops w/o checking what the compression would be first. I'm going to give him benefit of the doubt and assume he didn't realize how small cc these combustion chambers are and that the CR would be so high. He probably figured LT1 = regular SBC...get flat tops.

He's been doing SBC's for a while though.

Are there any other little LT1 specific things I should make a point to bring up with him? Any plugs in the block he needs to make sure not to forget etc?

I was gonna ask him if he planned on figuring the CR before he assembled it but I didn't want to insult him.

Plus, I'm learning a LOT as I go along.

Don't care what my CR is, as long as I'm hittin ~450 HP at the flywheel w/o detonation on pump gas I am a happy man. If I could snag over 400 at the wheels that would even be better, but I can't have everything

Dave, you are too used to Mustangs. Haha, I would not even bother building a stroked LT1 if it didnt make well over 400rwhp.

Well over 400rwhp can be made with a small cam (224/236ish), around 11.5 compression, and some good heads that flow in excess of ~265ish at peak.

Remember the link I sent ya? www.gotmilkracing.com

Look over my man's motor specs there again, it may be of some help...

The reason the LT1's can run so much compression on pump gas is because of the reverse flow cooling where the coolant goes to the heads first and keeps the combustion chambers cooler than conventional cooling systems.

I tell ya what. If this car hits over 400 rwhp (~460-480 fwhp), then I will sell off my Mustangs and change my username to Dave97LT1. *

I forgot about the gotmilk site...I will check that out again!!!

*Not really, but it sounded good!

400rw should be NP with good heads and the right cam. people do that with 350s

you keep forgetting we can do anything a stang can do....

only we can do it NA!

there is no replacement for displacement except forced induction-
then the displacement gets some and were all ****ed

stock bottom end, heads/cam lt1s are making over 400rwhp.

if i did a 383/396 , id be dissapointed with anything less than 420 rwhp

(assuming you have good heads)

Very good to hear. I'm keeping the stock heads, but they're getting ported, going with 2.00/1.56 valves, camshaft dependent upon what the heads flow, long tubes...

i'm more concerned with my torque numbers being how its a stroker and street racer
