383 Exhaust...

I am building a 383 LE3 setup with 11.8:1 Compression (Daily Driver)... so the thing is going to be QUITE loud. It sucks, but i'm going to have to suffer some power loss and quiet the volume of everything.

I already have the Pacesetters LT's and was going go to 2 1/2" X Pipe with dual chambered mufflers (Dumps) and call it a day... but thats out of the question because that'll be just WAYYYYYYYYY to loud.

So I am thinking about going with the Pacesetter Y (Fakeass cats :-)) because they do visual inspection around here now, and mufflers out the rear. But I still want to keep a very muscle car sound. Something with a lot of tone but very very nasty at wot. I'm basically asking for everything... :-/

Quiet (For a 383 LE3 11.8:1 CR) but sounds like a monster at WOT

Chris!! Whats up brotha?! How you been man... never freakin talk anymore!! Dual Cutouts? Really? I never thought of that... Hmm... worth it to go electric you think?

So then I guess I should try and make the exhaust as quiet as possible? Oh man, good thinking. Thats why you're my LT1 mentor... hahahaha

Re: 383 Exhaust...

I am running a Flowmaster system with my 383 set-up, I like the sound, but it is a little on the loud side. I have heard that the dynomax and hooker systems are quieter than most. It is going to be loud with your motor and LT's no matter what you do.

I have the same compression in my 383. Lloyd done the head/cam package.Finding all the little weak garbage cause it seems every other day something is breaking. I had the loudmouth with jet hot long tubes and no cat. It was way too loud. I got a good deal on a magnaflow and tried that. It is noticeably quieter. I also installed dynatech vortex cones in the collectors. By doing both the car is about as quiet as it was when it was stock with the loudmouth and edelbrock shorties and cat. Get on it... and you still know it ain't stock.

Re: 383 Exhaust...

You can always go with an adjustable Borla...cap it up for daily driving and experiment with the plates for the best sound...I run mine wide open all the time and its not too bad...I run 11.2:1 and a 1000 rpm choppy idle and its down right nasty, but not too nasty...

Re: 383 Exhaust...

$280 Hooker cat-back system...Sweet muscle car tone (QUIET at idle/part throttle & LOUD when you get on it). NO interior drone/noise either. And the best part is it flows awesome (even on highly modified cars). One of the few aftermarket systems that actually sounds good without cats and on highly modified motors...

I've had it before and wish I had never got rid of it...In fact, I'll probably put it on my soon to be cammed LT1 if I can come up with the extra money...

That's easily my choice,

Mike

Re: 383 Exhaust...

I think I am going to do what Chris said... I'll Y pipe with dual cutouts for true duals when I want to sound nasty, but have a hooker catback for driving around.

Thanks fellas... by the way. Where is a good place to get high flow cats that are actually straight pipes? haha

yes, 11.8:1 but with a custom grind from Lloyd my dynamic compression is at 9:1. Granted gas mileage sucks but it is wicked fast
