383 clearancing (cam)
383 clearancing (cam)
I'm in the middle of clearancing my LT1 for the 383 crank. I'm using 5.7 H-Beams (basically Eagles) The cam I'm going to use is a comp cams 224/224 568. I've done a search and couldn't find an answer to the question I'm about to ask.
Are there particular cylinders that will interfere more than others that I have to watch out for. I did read 2 and 7 were a problem for somebody but I don't know if that's for all. I want to get all of this done before balancing if i have to grind on a rod. Which leads me to a second question....What part of the rod interferes? and a third....Do I have to mock up the ENTIRE assembly to do this or just 2 at a time and is it possible to do it without the pistons.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bryan

Re: 383 clearancing (cam)
O.K., now I'm confused. I'm clearancing the block for the rod swing on the crank, but I thought there might be interference with the cam inside the block???!!!
Please clarify this for me. I don't want to do it twice. It's taking too much time and too much money as it is!!
Thanks,
B

Re: 383 clearancing (cam)
I have been walking for 18 months... and spent 13K on my motor... trust me, I know what time and money is.
On my motor... I ran into block clearance problems on the bottom side... where the rods would not clear the block. I was also VERY CLOSE on piston to valve clearance. I did have to cut the rods a little for the cam also... however, my cam is a hell of a lot bigger then yours.
