383 cam choice, hotcam ok?

ive been thinking of going with a golen 383 shortblock, you can click on my link to see all my current mods. but i was wondering if running the hotcam would be okay on a 383, with future NOS plans in mind. nuthin big. basically i want a daily driver something that runs like stock but makes enough power to throttle a 40mph burnout golens longblocks run a 224/230 cam with around 500 lift so i was wondering if anyone on here had any experience running the hotcam in a 383. thanks

I do know offhand that a hot cam has .525/.525 lift with 1.6 roller rockers, thats a bit more lift but the hotcam does have slightly less duration than that at 219/228.

yeah, i know the hotcams duration is a lil less, and i know its all about the right combo, maybe sstrokerace can throw someinput my way. maybe i need a custom cam

also, what all is involved in a 350 to a 383 swap what all parts are the same and can be transfered over and whats diff? will i need a new oil pan or will stock work. i need 383 advice everyone, who has a 383 throw in your input here.

I had it. It ran ok, but cannot compare to what I have now, and the driveabilty is very much the same. Contact Bret SStrokerAce, and see what he reccomends..

I'm using the stock valve covers, stock oil pan, stock accessories, stock waterpump, etc., etc.

Basically, with my 383, everything outside the engine block and head castings is stock (or at least it could be, in the case of my headers, TB, CAI, etc.)..... and everything inside isn't stock.

For a 383 there is quite a bit needed to the block. Top end? I guess you don't have too... but that would eat up your potential. Building a 383 on a budget isn't possible... haha. I tried that **** and failed miserably. Although my car sounds like a powerhouse and feels pretty damn good when it ran good for that 2 seconds... haha WAY to much for what I originally thought.

It sounds like you just want a top end re done... call Lloyd and let him make it happen... Or call Nick @ Victory Racing. He's awesome too... from what I understand, he does awesome work too. 586-741-0158

Re: 383 cam choice, hotcam ok?

I had the hot cam in my 355, blown. It seemed to run pretty good.

I now have the CC 224/236 at 114 lsa cam along with some more port work and upgraded valve train parts.

A big difference.

If you want a good idle and are going to run nitrous or a blower later on, I would highly recommend the same cam. I would not run the hotcam.
