383, cam, and California emissions questions
383, cam, and California emissions questions
I am considering doing a 383 this winter for my car. I already have Lloyd’s heads, a 230/236-112 cam, pushrods, guideplates, roller rockers, etc. I also have all the bolt-ons. I need something that is going to pass emissions in California.
I know that about the biggest you can go on a stock bottom end is a hotcam or CC305. How much more cam than that can I get away with in a 383 and still pass emissions? Is it going to be worth it to go to a 383?
This is for a street driver. It’s not daily driven, but could be. With the current setup in the sig, it’s quite easy to drive and I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it every day in LA traffic.
Thanks,
BRAD

Re: 383, cam, and California emissions questions
I just passed a CA smog check with an LT-4 Hotcam. (standard bore - new rings & bearings) The HC reading was right at the limit with a MadZ28 program. The extra cubic inches should help bring that down.
The problem I see is that you have removed the AIR and EGR. I had the AIR disconnected the first time I tested and it failed miserably (I don't have the paperwork in front of me at the moment or I'd let you know exactly what it was)
