383

Im looking at building a lt1 383 i want to be able to hit it with 100-150 shot, will the I-beam rods and cast steel crank hold? does anyone know of a good lt1 383 kit? im also going to keep stock 2 bolt main only with arp bolts.

We have a bunch of Eagle assemblies on sale until the end of the month, as well as assembles short blocks. You can check them out on our website or in the group purchase forum.

Re: 383

I am a 357, not 383 but here is my thoughts.

I would only use the cast stuff if I was reusing the stock. In that case a 383 is out of the picture.

Both eagle and scat have some fairly cheap (read not much more than cast) forged parts. May be made in China, but it will still hold better than your stock stuff and save some money compared to the nicer stuff.

I went with the 357 and did the h beams, I really wish I would have gone with the I beams and got a 383 setup. (Similar money)

4 bolts if you can afford it. Mine is 2 bolt mains, stock caps, arp bolts. (hope it holds)

I'm doing this project right now, I got a forged crank from scat. www.adperformance.com I went four bolts, I-beams, and forged pistons. There are a lot of people running two bolt 383s, BUT most will tell you that its worth the "peace of mind" to go four bolts. I mean if you're going to spend BIG $$$ on a HI-Po motor, you might as well go all the way. Props to VRE(victory racing) they have a good rep and great customer service.

kline454: I can also recommend Victory Racing Engines to you, they are a GREAT bunch of guys. They won't steer you wrong. As for the motor, I built a motor with similar goals, i plan to go alittle more in the future but my theory still stands, I am sure lots will agree with me. BUILD IT ONCE!!!!!! You dont know what you are going to do in the future, you may want to do 150 shot now, but what when you want to do a 150 shot out of the hole and a 150 shot after the 60' or something. Or what about when you want to do all that and boost her to 15psi after you drop your compression down abit. Build that sucker once, thats the modo i had, splayed mains, callies crank, callies rods, JE custom pistons, best proven stuff. Its easy to change headers, exhaust, etc.. etc.. in the furture if your plans change....It's not so easy to spend all that money and then have to pull the motor and put stronger pistons in, or stronger rods.....Pay now or pay later....But yea, go with Victory, give them a call...they have some great prices!

A bit more budget minded setup is a Scat 4340 crank, Scat 4340 H-beams with Mahle pistons. Scat isn't top of the line, but I don't spray the hell out of my motor nor do I spin it beyond the limitations of the PCM - they should hold up fine. I spent the money on heads, machine work (4-bolt conversion, et all) and pistons.
