383 or 396 Stroker kit?
There's no replacement for displacement!
At least that's what I've heard. But seriously, it seems that more often than not, people seem to go with the 383. I'm thinking maybe because it's more cost friendly?

about the cost thing you're right. the 383 can be made with a cast crank and the only cranks offered for a 396 (3.875" stroke) are forged. and from what i hear a 396 instead of 383 pretty much doubles the cost of the short block. not sure but i think you have to be careful on rod selection or it could hit the cam if you have enough duration and lift.
The only extra costs involved with a 396 are the additional costs of a forged crank (vs. cast for a 383), and some extra clearancing. Also, there are less off-the-shelf pistons for a 396, but that's about it.
For ultimate n/a power, the advantage goes to the 396.

The little info on building strokers helps a little bit. Maybe someone can help me, I'm looking for a short block that can handle up to 6250-6500 rpms and about 450 horspower. I see from the info that I dont need a forged steel. I would like a cast steel anyways. Anybody know where I can get a 383 short block with 4 bolt mains?
Thanks
Matt
Thanks

Do a search for stroker on here....you'll get more info than you know what to do with.
Also contact cmotorsports, nu-tek and various other sources to see what their pricings are and what they include with their buildup.
Both of these companies offer complete shortblocks and longblocks.

I know about Cmotorsports and Nu-tek, and they look awesome as well as the strokers, but I dont want a forged steel crank. Im not going to add a blower, maybe n20 in a year or so. I dont need all the fancy forged cranks, they just burn a hole in my wallet, a cast steel is all I need with an I beam. However I do want forged SRP pistons, does anyone know where I can get a short block like this assembled? I am going to contact Nu-Tek and cmotorsports to see if they can custom build a stroker for me.

A 383 also allows you to use 6.0" rods.
A 396 would be overkill in your situation.
Golen
Golen offers a 480hp 383 for 6800 bucks. This is the long block. Most people seem to spend plenty more than that putting their own together. I think you get a warranty with it as well. Golen has a pretty good rep, according to "Chevy High Performance."
I get all my parts from Nick at www.nu-tekmotorsports.com
Can't go wrong with Nu-tek.
And they'll build you a stroker according to your budget.
