355 build problems.......
355 build problems.......
Well everything has been going well with my build until last week!! The machining and parts I bought all went together very well, and the engine is ALMOST complete. I was planning on using my CC Pro Mag SA rocker arms until I could afford a set of NSA ones. Last Thursday I went to install the RA and seen that the SA tabs where hitting the 10* Super Locks I had the machine shop installed on my 918's...... Damn!!!! Why is that happening? On here and search and find that the Super Locks allow for higher install hight of the spring, which in turn makes less of the valve stem protruding out of the locks.
Ok, I look around and decide on a new set of CC Ultra Gold's Aluminium RR, 1.6, 3/8 stud, 5/16 rod,(19002-16), CC Magnum Pushrods 5/16 (7608-16) and CC Guide plates (4808-8) I know there not the best. Everything should be good, but of course not! I checked the RA alignment to the valve and it was good but when I install the guide plated and tried to Adj the RA the bottom of the RA hit the stud nut before it was tight on the valve.
Now what??? On here again and found that you need RA studs that have a thin jam nut on the bottom, CC High-Tech Rocker Arm Stud (4505-16).
All this happened because I did not take my time and research what I needed for parts BEFORE I ordered stuff. Well really it was because of the 10* suprer locks....LOL This info is on this site, just not in one spot, until now. I hope this helps someone else in the future.

Re: 355 build problems.......
You have to run the 787-16 retainer and stock lock for the S/A rocker arm. Since you had to buy all new stuff upgrading to 7/16 studs would have been the best option. The stock stud may work just fine and for the guide plates I'd recommend 30400623-8 Trickflows.
Re: 355 build problems.......
I know that now, but I had already installed the heads, and I would have had to take them off and back to the machine shop to have the spring set up again for the 7* locks and retainers.
I would have upgraded to 7/16 studs but I had already cleaned the new Ultra's so i could not send them back and the CC High-Tech studs are as strong or stronger then regular 7/16 studs.
I have a hard time getting parts "fast" here in Canada or I would have gotten the Trick flow guide plates, we'll see how the CC ones work, I've read that it may take time but if you move them around from spot to spot they will work.... I still may have to get the Trick Flow ones??
