350 RWHP...

Would it equal low 12s, depending on the driver of course?

And...does anyone have a good rule of thumb for measuring actual motor HP vs. RWHP...

Example RWHP = 350....actual engine HP = 350 + X% of 350

Just my question of the hour...

People have run 11's with much less than 350 rwhp.

M6 cars with a stock rear have an approximately 15% drivetrain loss. So an M6 car dynoing 300rwhp = 345 at motor, or
RWHP x 1.15 = HP at motor. A4's lose a little more, around 17-20%

350 rwh

My goal with 300rwh is to run 12.9. This is with suspension mods,Nittos,stall(2800),headers, all bolt ons. Also with bulletproof tranny(can handle up to 425rwh).May take me another year though. In no hurry1Pickerman

Some one on here broke 12.9 with a cold air, Yank Stall, 3.73s, gutted cat. Just a amtter of how well you can drive and how much your car weighs.

rwhp has not as much effect on the ET as does TRACTION, LAUNCH, and WEIGHT.

ever wonder why autos with the same mods and manuals run about .7-1.0 faster? look at ken for example, 230/236 heads, stall, and he ran like a 11.2 i think. then take beast96z same mods except a manual and he ran a 11.98

my 2 cents

Gregg 97Z:
Just want to correct you a little bit there....you can't calculate a 15% loss like that...

If you have 345 on motor and take 15% off you have 85% left => 345*0.85=293.25hp at the wheels 51.75hp in loss that is.

If you want to calculate backwards it becomes

Rwhp/(1-(%loss/100))= Motor hp

So if you dyno 300 rwhp and calculate with a 15% drivetrain loss the motor hp becomes

300/(1-(15/100)) = 352.9 Motor hp

...

Well, my sig sums up my mods and my best ET so far. BONE STOCK 160K mile suspension!!! I need subframes!

I'm guessing I have 290RWHP...TOPS!! And, I agree that HP isn't the big determining factor of ETs...traction, launch and driver...oh, and weight. My car is LIIIIIIIGHT!

I never was very good at math (I was close though) thanks for the correction

How you make use of the power you make is more important than the power you make.

The easy way to figure out flywheel hp #'s.... 300/.85=352.9

Just divide.

Yeah, weight is a BIG factor. Here is a calc site that might help:

That calc will give you and ideal, but I figure that my car in raceweight weighs 3600 lbs. My car dynoed 359 rwhp, 450 rwtq. That calc says I have to make 438 @ the wheels to run those times in my sig.

I put in my estimated race weight and my estimated horsepower and it gave me within .3 of what my best ET was the other day. Worked almost the same on my friend's.

Me: 3250#s and 290RWHP was my guess...got close to that 12.98 I ran. The MPH was lower than what I obtained though.

Again...just guesses.

Even the site says that it is not a 100% accurate as most calculations but it'll give you some idea. There are just too many variables. In my case it seems to show higher than actual HP but I've never dynoed my car.
