3 inch cutout question
hey guys, im looking into a 3 inch electric cutout for my stock exahust system and i was wondering where is the best place to install it? quite commonly i hear right before the rear axle...but why not closer to the front of the car before the cat or is that not possbile? i havent looked underneath my care recently. im a teenager so i like having the loud rumble and whatever comes along with it. i know they are illegal in CA, but when i got my car smogged they dont even look underneath and i can always turn it off, if it's too loud around the cops or whatever reason. thanks for any help.
The placement just before the rear axle is more out of necessity than anything else. Look under the car and you'll see that there's not many places to choose from. Not only that, but that particular "spot" has a perfect place for the cut-out to fit. Keep in mind it'll be bulky, especially with the electric add-on.

Me, I have seen them in two places. In place of the cat where the "hump" is and where mine is, just before the pipe makes the turn going over the axle.
Here are some pics:

As far as being louder, I do not think there would be that much difference between the two locations as long as it is all the same size pipe.
I know when mine is open it is obnoxious!!
Cool, but obnoxious. The electric cutout is really nice.

They make a few different types. I have the quicktime electric cutout. (QTEC) from www.quicktimeperformance.com
Others run the Borla. Which is the one I recommend. There is also one other, that I can't think of right now and someone else will have to chime in on that one.

www.quicktimeperformance.com seems to be fairly popular

ok cool....hey scott... it looks like your cutout is angled to the side, sorta facing the outside of the car..Is that how it is? is there any advantage that u know of to have it facing the pavement cause i have heard its supposed to face down ...but it would seem much easier to get at if it was angled sideways
If it was angled down it would drag the ground with the slightest bump.
Yes it is angled to the side of the car. With the electric unit I had to "massage" the underside to make it clear or the motor would be in danger of getting wiped out.
