3" exhaust cutout plates?

After putting JetHot LT's and off-road y-pipe on my 96Z I had a 3" exhaust cutout installed. I love the way it sounds and get a lot of compliments. However, it is a little loud for street use and I figure the cops would eventually bust me for disturbing the peace.
As such I normally keep the system capped on the street. Unfortunately, when capped the car sounds almost stock until you really get on it. So I was thinking about making several plates with various size holes that would fit the cutout. This should be simple to fabricate and would give me some adjustability for sound similar to what you can do with the Borla systems. What do you guys think? Has, anyone done this before?

I think an electric cutout would be much easier.

I've been out rolling with InjectedSS and if Johnny Law is a little too close it only takes a flip of the switch. Another flip of the switch and it's back to being loud as hell.

I can't remember where it was, but I saw a place on the net that has some 3-bolt flange plates with different sized/shaped holes in them. Just hunt for them.

When I got the cutout I only intended to open it at the strip or when autocrossing. However, the sound is a beautiful thing and I find myself wanting it all the time. Perhaps the electric cutout would be best but I just didn't want to spend that kind of cash. The cost of my cutout was almost free when included as part of my long tube header install. It was a 'might as well' type mod. Anyway, I'm thinking I could make a few plates with various size holes and tune the sound to an acceptable level for the street. Additional cost, nothing. Trouble, only slight and once I find a good sound level plate I'll leave it on except for racing. I'm thinking this might prove to be an easy and cheap way to modify the way my exhaust sounds. Much cheaper than trying several different mufflers until I find one I like.

Thanks for the info about such plates being available on the net LWillmann. However, I think I'll just make up some myself. Should be a fun little afternoon project.
