3 different size head bolts or 2??

hi guys k, little ? when i removed all the head bolts off my car, i was pretty sure there were only two lenghts. 8 short ones for the bottom and the rest on top were all the same length. so i ordered some new ones and picked them up yesterday. theyre felpro head bolts. now the thing is, theres 3 different sizes in this pack 8 small ones, 7 long ones, and 2 in between?? wtf? maybe i didnt notice that when i removed the old ones? i dunno? if this is correct, and i should have 3 lenghths, where do the 2 go? the #1 bolt and #17? im confused now cause i was sure there was only 2 lengths. also, the threads are already coated with something (i presume threadlocker) should i recoat them or just use em like that? i was gonna get to puttin the heads on tonight but now im stuck. your help is always appreciated. thanks guys.

you need to look at the long bolts that you took off more carefully, and you'll realize that the first and last bolt in the middle row are shorter than the rest of the long ones. I also used the fel-pros when i finished my install a week or 2 ago. you shouldnt need to recoat them at all, they should be ready to toss right in there. Just make sure that you have a Good torque wrench for tightening those puppies down. Start puttin those bad boys on man!

thank you 1loud by first and last i suppose you mean #1 and #17? or the one closest to the front (#17) and the one closest the firewall (#14)? sorry bout that, just wanna make sure. also on a sidenote, there was a mechanic at the parts store and he "advised" me to add more thread sealant on the bolts cause its not soft enough. and also, do i need to put any threadlocker on the bolts? is the red too strong? the blue one (medium)? or none? thanks a biiiiiiiiiggggg bunch

Yes the very front one and very rear one are shorter than the other ones inside the valve cover. You need to use a "thread sealer" not a "thread locker" on the head bolts since they go into the coolant passages.
