3:73's or 4:11's?

I have a '94 Z28 with the 4L60E........I am thinking of putting in better gears.....I have 3:23's right now but I was wondering if 4:11's would be too steep....Or should I just go with the 3:73's.....I drive the vehicle everyday and drive on the highway everyonce in a while.....I'm not too worried about the gas mileage either.....With the 4:11's, what RPM do you run going say like 65?

Exclamation

You're talking 4.10s in this case...

Of the two you mentioned though.. I'd say just 3.73s.

The thing with either is, you won't be able to kickdown with as high a speed as you could before. I don't know about you, but with my 3.23s I loved being able to be cruising on the freeway at 85mph, put the hammer down and still get a nice WOT kickdown.

3.23s were perfect for me. My vote: stay with what you got, but if you absolutely have your heart set on changing, 3.73s.

A lot of guys here will tell you to just TC it instead anyway.

I have the 3.73's and i love them. I think that compared to 4.10's the are obviously slower; however, all around i would stick with the 3.73's b/c of the gas milage (you may not be worried about it now but if we go to war and gas is $4.00 a gallon, you might care then) and because of the top end power. If you are considering doing a lot of racing and such, you may want to consider the 4.10's; however, if you think about it, a couple dollars a tank adds up to quite a bit. Think how many more mods you could buy !

I had 4.10's in my car a few months ago and have recently installed 3.73's. I am much happier with the change. The 4.10's were way to much and I had no first gear. It would rev up so fast and spin like a mad man til I hit 2nd. Even then I would get some spin. Like the other man said, stick with what you got or dont go over a 3.73.

Another vote for 3.73's. A 4.10 will be just way too much gear for an auto.

Definetsly would knock off some ET's and would be a great combo with a 2800 vig or better stall

I went from 273's to 323's now. It was a huge improvement. But cruising at 80 I am at like 2500 rpms now. I think I am gonna step up to 342's, I think that would suit me better. I would not get 410's unless you do alot of racing at the tracks and have slicks. You would have very little traction.

I had 3.73's when I had an A4 and loved em! You also need to think of driveshaft speed when going to 4.10's....if that shaft is the least bit warped it will bug the hell outa you.

Not necessarily, my Motive Performance gears are a 4.11 ratio. I'm not sure on the other brands.

I wouldn't go 4.11's with 3.23 and an A4 unless you have a big cam and very sticky tires. Don't forget about the torque converter either, one of the A4's biggest advantages! This also depends heavily on mods and usage as well.
