the max you'll want is 3.73.

dont go above that unless you like low gas milage, and no traction at all.!!!!!

most will say that 3.73 is the best if not only gear a auto should have, next to 3.32 or 3.42

I'd say go with 3.73's, 4.10's would be too much for a daily driven A4. 4.10's in an auto would also mean nonexistent traction at low speeds when you get on it.

Thank you for all the replys. What kind of gains are people seeing from switching from 3.23s to 3.73s, im hoping to find 1-2 tenths (is this being realistic?) Im also looking at a set of Nitto drag radials, wheres the best price? Also is there any thing to gain with engine tuning with just bolt ons? And again thanks for all the help

Any gains will be directly related to traction. If you can get some, then you may see some benefit. Of course, that starts an ever escalating battle. You will probably want a higher stall converter, then want higher revs, meaning cam, valve train, heads, headers...

I would recommend going with a 3.73. A 4.10 is just way too much gear for your setup..

Another vote for 3.73's...4.10 is much too low if you are planning to drive the car daily - especially if you do any highway driving! My preferred is actually a 3.42 though - great highway launch, still good still launch. Depends on what you want - brute low end = 3.73.

well your not the only one, I also like the 4.10 gears, yes gas mileage will suffer and all, and of course traction becomes a big issue, but they sure are fun. BTW my moms 91 geo prism does 3500 rpm at 70 mph. according to the calculator with 4.10 in an A4 would be 2600 rpm at 70 so all in all your still better than an automobile with only a 3 speed

I saw about .35 with my change from 2.73 to 3.73. It will be a bit better with drag radials I'm sure If I did alot of driving on the freeway I would have chosen 3.42's but I do most my driving at 45-55 MPH. A few hundred RPM make a big difference crusing at 70 MPH for an hour. It can be a bit much when I drive to the track with the borla wide open, not that I mind every once in a while
