3.73's or 2800 Converter ?

My 95 is used for highway mostly, I havent even touched the track. I want to help get rid of the dead spots associated with the A4. What would be better to go with, again keeping in mind I dont do strip ?

Both ideally...but if you do a lot of highway driving and you had to choose just one I'd say the stall converter...

If your on the highway alot, 3.42's would probably be better than 3.73's. With 26" tall tires, 3.73's cruise a bit higher on the freeway than with my 28" tall tires (which brings the "gear ratio" back down to about 3.53).

At 60 with my stock wheels and 26" tires on, I cruise at 2300-2400 rpm.

At 60 with my drag wheels and 28" tires on, I cruise at 1900-2000.

I'd do a Vig 2800 or Yank 3000, and 3.42's.

Yeah @ 75mph I turn 2000 RPMS.

At 90mph I am at 2500 RPM's.

I just didnt want to be turning 3000 at 75mph.

I ran around with my 2400 stall with stock 2.73's for a while and it sucked.. If I had the order of the installs to do over again, I'd do the gears first.

I also do mostly highway and was very surprised to see the fuel comsumption didn't really take a major nose dive. It's obviously not as good as 2.73's, but no where near as bad as I was expecting.

I've said this once and I'll say it again: You'll get waaaaay more for your money with the torque converter than the gears.

Try roughly 5 tenths with the Vig 2800(assuming you can hook up with some Nitto DR's) as compared to 1-2 with the 3.73's and decent traction...

Best of all, the stall will help you out with your dead spots a little(but only really down low) whereas the 3.73's only just move them around. Also, the stall verter lockups well before highway speeds, thus retaining stock gearing rpm usage. That won't be the case with the gears...

Easy decision IMO...

stall or gears

Definitely get the stall!! Best mod Ive done. also get a tranny cooler(I have the b+m 24,000 one) and a better tranny mount( I got the 1le mount from slp).I also have Nittos, and they hook pretty good.Your car will feel like a different animal! My stall is 2800. I flash it and it stalls at 3000.Cant wait for the spring when my built tranny goes in and I have longtubes installed.Pickerman
