I have a 94 Formula A4 car with 2.73 gears. I would like to know how much of an improvement it would make at the track, depending on traction. Also, does anybody out there know how much of an improvement it made on the GM High tech performance mag car called "The Grape of Wrath" when they switched from a 2.73 to a 3.42 gear. Can you feel a difference with the 3.42 gear.Does anybody have a copy of the article with them testing the car with the gear swap. I only have the first magazine article. Thanks

 

Dude you can tell a big difference in 2.73 to 3.23. I did that in my car. 3.42 is a popular choice for the autos.

 

I went from 3:23s to 3:42s and they feel a bit more stout. Traction is a bit of an issue from the line...but once moving they really like to haul ***. Great gear for a A4 car. Gas mileage is still in lower 20s..and with the 3:23s stock I was getting ~26.

 

Jeremey the best all stock run on the grape was13.877 after the slp mods the best run was 13.761 thats including slicks.By the way i went from 2.73 to 3.42 quite a nice diffrence not much of a gain on the quater mile though. ENJOY

3.42 is a great gear for these cars. u will love them and notice a decent gain from them too. 1/4 mile and SOTP!
