3.42 or 3.73 gears in auto cars..
Since the lt1 come with an overdrive gear is there much problem with 3.73 or 3.42 gears..I dont' see many people go with 4.10 with autos..opinions on each of the above ratios..what is top speed with 3.73 and rpm at 100 km/60mph an hour assuming standard issue z28 tires.
And just personal feel from you guys that have 3.42 and 3.73 in your auto cars..and how would say adding a 2800 or so stall make a difference to your gear recommendations.?

i have 3:73 and ike them so far. at 70mph is 2500rpm. i'd be leary of the higher stalls, becouse traction is hard to get with low gears, unless you run a dr or slick. you will be prety close to red line at the end of the 1/4. some guys go with 3:42 and a high stall but i dont like the feel or the drive of high stalls. i run a 2500 now and really think that its on the limit of being drivable. had a 4500 (kinda an accident) it run good until i hit the rev limit at 85 in 3rd. but i think lower gear and tighter converter works good.

i have been debating for the longest time of wether to get 373's or 342's, finally i made a decision and ordered precision gears 342's, only because i have an automatic, i didnt want to kill my fuel economy that much, i should get them any day now, i will let you know how they are once i put them in, hopefully this week sometime...i finally found a dealer that sells precision, i only got them because most guys here told me to stay away from richmond as they are loud and that precision were good and quiet, so hopefully it works out, ill keep you guys updated.

3.42's cruise a little better on the highway, thats why I got 3.73's then put on a 28" tall tire to lower the gear ratio back down to 3.53.
Either one you can't go wrong with. But if you do get a big stall, you will need some serious tires to hook up. I'd only recommend a 2400-2800. When I get my TH400, I'm going to go down a little in stall speed.

I just had some Strange 3.73's installed.. I'm glad I didn't go with the 3.42's, these gears are perfect. They're not as OH MY GOD as I thought they'd be, but they certainly brought back some general quality of life after the 2400 stall/2.73's. The car is nice and peppy now
