3.42 or 3.73 on 383 stroker

Which gear would be best. My engine builder insist teh 3.73 are the way to go. I have a Yank 2800 TQ and will be adding an auburn posi and gears next week. We have not ordered the gears yet. But I drive the car on the street alot. This is a daily driver that may see occasional track use. I would have to estimate around 400rwhp or more. Blew the tranny before i got on dyno and a final tune. Will be getting tranny rebuild at same time as rest.

And what kind of gas milage could i expect with each. During school year i have to drive about 30 miles each way at night to go to class. 4 nights a week. I can easily put 300-400 miles on a car in a week.

Thanks,
JoMo

well,

how do you drive your car? aggessive, or easy? if you are an aggressive driver i would go with the 3.73's but if this is going to be more of a street car, 3.42's might be more enjoyable!

If it truly will be a street car, nothing wrong with the 3.42's or the Auburn Posi. If you ever plan on racing at the track on a regular basis you will want a 12 bolt, 3.73's and decent tires. A 383 produces gobs of torque and hooking up will kill the rear end.

I have 3.73's and like them and I do put plenty of miles on my car but most of them are to and from the track because I race weekly.

hmmm lets see driving characteristics.
I have blown the auto tranny in every car i have ever owned some twice. Any front wheel drive car also had its CVJoints blown. Tranny in blazer is going out for second time as we speak. So yeah i like to have fun and test the limits of a car and myself. But i think from my experience in this car already. I need to be a little more carefull because it i has more power than I know how to handle. Dad owned a 69' GTO Judge w/455 and after driving mine said it had more power than his Judge. It is amazing that it can break the rear wheels loose at 40 without a problem and just start sliding. What kind of gas milage difference would i see.

Later,
JoMo
