3.23 to 3.42s

I searched but couldn't find anything in the LT1 tech forum so figured I'd ask. Stock 95 T/A LT1 A4 ran 9.16 @78 with a .52xx R/T and a 2.16 60'

What kind of change in my 60' and 1/8th mile times will I see and is it worth it?

What about with a 2800 stall converter?

you'll see more with the stall than you will with that small of a gear ratio change...many see .5 second off of their time with the 2800 stall...

Would I see a .1 or .2 with gears? would 3.42s be better with the stall then the 3.23s are is it not big enough of a difference to make up for the lost gas mileage on a daily driver?

People worry way too much about the loss in gas mileage...you won't be losing so much that you'll notice...

If you're going to do a gear change, go to 3.73's...not 3.42's...you'll love the 3.73's with the 2800 stall....

Well my only concern is I only get 220mi to a 15g tank which is less then 15m/g... Any less and my next mod will have to be a beatermobile

Such a minute change shouldn't even be a worry, especially with LT1's...

Go 3.73's....

Hey Maddhatter, it sounds like you might need a tune up. 220 miles on a full tank w/ 3:23's seems a little low. I have 3:73's and average 260-70 miles a tank. That's a combination of city/highway driving. I would opt for the 3:73's. Good luck.

I think it could be a bad fuel pump. Cold starts are a lil slow, but if you start it, shut it down, then start it back up it, it starts right up no problem. Could that be affecting mileage as well?

When was the last time you swapped in a fresh fuel filter? I toss one in every year.. they're dirt cheap and easy to swap.

On the gears and mpg, I honestly don't see much of a difference between my mileage going from 2.73's to 3.73's. I thought it'd go right down the drain, but it didn't. I'd definitely consider 3.73's over the 3.42's.

Bump on the 3.73's Even going to 3.73's isn't as dramatic as everyone makes it out to be. Definately don't bother with anything less than 3.73's

I'm getting 3.42's and a posi unit for $30, so it's worth it for me! It'll deffinately be enough to make 11's set in stone for me.

Are you going to install the gears yourself?

I've had both with a 2800 stall and a 2400 stall. I like my current combo especially for a daily and I also have a shift kit which makes a huge difference. I like the 342s and 373s though believe the 342s are better all around. It just depends on your goals. If you just want to go fast 373 is the way to go also remember there is some gear whine with 373s. What I did what get a 2000 complete rear with 342s in it and there is no noise or hassle.
Just depends what you want.

I have no gear "whine" with my 3.73's....it all depends on if you get the hardened set or the soft set...
