2nd time my car wont start! But only after it's rained!!! And I need the car!

Well, it happend again... my car just wont start. The last time it didn't start I was driving it in the rain.. but this time all it did was sit in the rain! I didn't take it anyways, no one drove it anywhere... just raining most of the night. The last time it happend I just let it sit with the hood open for the whole day and finaly in the evining it started.. so I figure whatever is getting wet is drying.. but now it did it again and I need the car soon! What I don't get is how the rain is just getting in! It's just sitting there so what is somewhat accessible to the rain that's not letting it start? I really need this fixed.. I hope it's just something needs to be unpluged and dried Thanks

Does your coil have spark? If so it's the opti. When you aired it out there was probably still some moisture within the opti and the recent rain fall may have simply aggravated a pre-existing problem.

Can a little rain fall get to the opti that easily?

I had the same problem... couldn't figure it out. Finally waited til it was real dark and fired the car up and popped the hook looking for arcing. Saw a nice blue glow coming from the coil. Couldn't see anything wrong with it in the daylight, but apparently there was a problem. I replaced the coil and coil wire and have had no more problems

Did you drive the car in the rain before it died the second time?

Some people have bad luck with the opti-sparks and being that it previously had gotten wet and died would lead me to believe it died for the same reason again. I have never had one fail on me but I did replace mine once because it became covered in oil (bad crank seal) and I could see corrison buiding up on the connections.

Before wasting your time see if there's a spark at the coil. It very well could simply be coincidence that you car failed to start after a ran fall.

nope.. didn't drive the car in the rain.. parked it bone dry and then it rained... and then in the morning it was really really foggy.. so condensation seems to be a good reason... it's daylight right now and there is no one around so I'll have to check to see if the coil sparks later today
