2800 stall and 3.73s on stock LT1...

I am contemplating on these two items being my next upgrade. My 1994 Trans Am has a K&N FIPK and SLP catback with cutout. Would a midwest or vigilante 2800 stall and a set of 3.73s be a good next mod. I don't want to do headers yet. Is the 2800 stall going to be too big for a stock LT1? I hope not as I expect to have heads/cam/headers by the end of the 2003 year.

Personally, I would do headers first, but the gears and the stall will bring your car to life.

Go for it, you will love it.

Assuming you get a good converter, you will drop between .75 and 1.0 seconds off your 1/4 time (also assuming you can get traction).

I did it on a previous car of mine, and with LCAs, nitto drag radials, some pmc tuning and headers I was running 12.8 with a 1.7 60' time on a stock motor!

2800 vigilante was my first real mod on my SS. If I had it to do over again I would have bumped up to a 3200 stall. The 2800 is mild on the street and if your planning on doing heads/cam and headers in near future then I would for sure go bigger than 2800. There is no 3000 PI converter.

Hope you plan on getting drag radials so you can hook. I've got 3.73's and I was running 315 nitto drag radials on welds. I just sold them and I'm borrowing some salad shooters from a buddy until my telstars come in. With the 245 goodyears, doing 45mph I can nail it and get sideways. Very fun, but not good for trying to race. If you've got enough money for drag radials also then do it. If not then get gears or the stall and headers.

Go for the 3200. I would go with 3.42s if you plan on making some big power in the future. 3.73s are a good gear, until you have to shift to OD in the quarter. Then they will cost you ET.
