2800 stall and 3.73 gear, will i hook up?

my buddy has been arguing me that with my 2800 tc with a 2.5 str and if i get 3.73s that i will NOT hook up on the track, i have a set of bfg drag radials that will be on the car at the track, he says all that i will do is spin past the 60ft mark, and i say that i wont, does anyone have any input of this rumor?

You can always try. Dip them down to 14-15 psi, do a big 5-7 second burnout and hope it hooks. If it doesn't hook with a WOT off the line launch, hit it 3/4ths throttle off the line, if it hooks you'll be at a 5 mph roll, then go WOT.

That or upgrade to ET Streets.

THAT IS MY SETUP! I have a 2800 Stall + Gears + WAS on street tires = Can't hook up to save my life. My 60 foot times sucked bad, bad enough to upshift my gear way to early.

Good news Is I will be at the track this weekend with my new ET STREETS . I am gonna hook like a bat out of hell now. . I think with drag radials you should be fine, maybe I am going overkill, but at least I won't ever have to worry about getting a ****ty time due to traction. I am going to post up after I get my runs in, if not by this week, next week for sure.

Yeah now all you have to worry about is spreading your rear all over the starting line. Seriously, auto's aren't nearly as hard on rears than 6spds but with a stall and gears it sure makes up some difference. I have a Vig. 3000rpm and 3.73's. I'm afraid to go with more tire than DR's. Haven't been to the track yet but I can get them to hook pretty decent on the street. Heat em up like a **** and lower the pressure way down. You should be fine.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. When I'm on street tires traction is basically nonexistent under more than 1/2 throttle.

you can get it to hook up if you do a few mod's to the suspension. if you haven't already done it, poly mounts for the torque arm and tranny are a must. also some lca's will help. i got consistant 1.7x 60fts with 3500 stall and 3.42's on drag radials.

You can get it to hook up. There are people running those gears w/ even bigger stalls and they are doing it. Like earlier stated, some suspension mods and tires will do it for ya. Good luck!

Then please tell me what I am doing wrong.
Eibach drag launch kit, BMR torque arm, lakewood LCAs, 275 Nittos, AGX adjustable shocks and it won,t hook.......
1.99 sixty foot is the best I can do.
I just put some LCA relo brackets in so we will see if it helps.
Maybe I just can,t drive.

Are you heating the tires real good? Also try lowering the pressure a little. If your racing at the track with a higher tire pressure you'd use on the street that's probably part of your problem. Just keep lowering the pressure each run and see if you can get something that works.

well I did not want to go LOW on tire pressure but I am going to try it at the track this summer.
I have been running 18 lbs at the track but I guess I need to go lower.....and I am going to have to murder them on the burnout and see what happens.

I haven't run my at the track yet. But most people I've talked to say to get them down around 14-15psi and do a good 5-7 second burnout or maybe a little more. Nitto's really really respond to heat well. Good luck, I also hope to try mine at the track.

How much will poly mounts for the torque arm and tranny help?

I was thinking about getting some LCA's , how many tenths off the 60 do people normally drop?

Honestly, I think you need to heat them up more Mike. Although, kcir doesn't prep the track worth **** either. Hit up HPT sometime this summer, and smoke those fuggers off and get some good 60ft's. BTW, I just bought me some 26x11.50x15 et streets that I can let ya borrow.

Also depends on track prep, I can light up my ET streets at 15psi to or past the 60' if the track isnt prepped worth a toot.
