275 hp vs 285 hp stock

Do the dual cat cars really have 10 extra hp stock and is this shown at all at the ground on the dyno? Always was curious about this. And also, it is the dual cats that gives this improvement, right?

Its just a rating. Consider most LT1s 300ish FWHP cars

Re: 275 hp vs 285 hp stock

I was under the impression that there was an actual difference b/t the single and double cat cars, due to better flow. I'm hoping that headers on my single cat will seem more noticeable b/c of that-Is that an unreasonable expectation? So 300 FWHP translates to what...245-255 RWHP? A bit more w/M6, I'd guess.

While the dual cats on the '96 up fbods are the most obvious difference, there are others items like the cam, and programming.
See http://www.9c1.com/technical/LT1_rebuild/ar99928.htm
for the cams specs.

Yeah, I always though it had something to do with the programming from the obd1 and obd2 computers that gave it the extra ummmph----

Why would they have switched from 1 cat to 2 if no power gain? Perhaps meeting emissions standards-I'd be curious to know...

Dual cats are necessary for OBD-II so you can tell WHICH bank is running lean/rich. All cars had to be OBD-II by '96 model year. The reason for going to dual cats in '95 i believe had something to do with California emissions requirements???

Re: 275 hp vs 285 hp stock

Never thought about that. Does that mean my car won't throw separate codes distinguishing which bank is running improperly? Do the post cat O2's on the 2 cat cars make that possible where my O2's will not? Sorry for so many questions, I'm just wondering.

The obd II & dual cats came in the last half of the 96 models all 95's are obd I & single cat. All 97's are the dual cats and obdII.

Negative ghostrider, you could get a '95 dual cat in Cali - and all 96's are dual cat, everywhere.
