245/40/ZR17 on 9.5" wheel?
245/40/ZR17 on 9.5" wheel?
So I was going through a pawn shop today and I came across a pair of F1 tires with decent tread. Will the 245/40/17 work on my 9.5" wheel?
I know that width worked on the 8" wheels...didn't know if these were too small for my application...

Here is a 245/45 17 on a 9.5" rim.

Notice that you will be losing an inch of diameter with the 40 series aspect ratio. This will affect your speedometer slightly (~ 2mph at 60) and ground clearance by -1/2". The 40 series is ok on a 9.5 but the 45 series (which would be the proper diameter) has a maximum rim width of 9" for this particular tire. The sumitomos i have above are within spec with 245/45 17x9.5.
I hope your getting a really good price on these and measure the tread before you buy them. They may be decieving, better than yours but not really great. Unless there is significant tread and they are really cheap it might not be worth the price and then getting them mounted/blanenced/disposal.
good luck,
brent
