224/230 or 227/233 on stock heads
I've done quite a bit of research but couldn't find what I was looking for. Have people seen higher HP/TQ numbers with the 224/230 or with the 227/233 on stock heads? How about track times?
I currently have TPiS long tubes, full 3" exhaust with a 3" cutout, 1.6 rockers, cai, etc if that helps at all. By the time the cam goes in I'll have EX 612 springs, hardened pushrods, 7/16 studs...
Any first-hand experience would be helpful!

I just put the 227/233 in my 94z a4 right now with stock heads. I was going to dyno it last Saturday but my car decided to run like booty on the way there. I wasn't going to pay to have crappy numbers. I have a bad o2 sensor I think. I am going to be putting gears, headers, and a torque converter put on in the next week or so. I will say when it was running good that it screamed after after 2600 rpms. When I get all the bugs worked out I think I will be very happy.

I have the same decision but after some thought, I think I will choose the 224, just because you will need to rev the 227 up to or over 6200 RPM, and I don't know if I want that. The 224 I can rev to 6000 RPM, and it will have ample power.

Youguys are really splitting hairs here. The hp difference between the two: my guess is that you will pick up 2 peak hp on stock heads with the larger 227. HOWEVER, there is more HP variability from install to install in getting rockers set up right, the correct springs installed at proper height, and proper pushrod length than between these two cams. So what i'm saying is to spend your time researching the details of the cam install and how the whole valvetrain will work together instead of fretting over the difference.
Compare my 218/224 dyno and track results to peoples 230/236 numbers on stock heads and you'll see what i mean. Thats a prime example of 12 degrees making very little difference because of the limitations of the stock heads, and you're worried over 3 degrees.....
If you EVER think emissions testing might come to your neck of the woods, go with the 224/230 just to give yourself a better chance. On the otherhand *most* people do 'regret not going larger' and would like the tiny bit more lope at idle of the 227.

If you plan on doing the heads later, go 224/230 or larger.
If you dont, go 224/230 or smaller
I went 224/230 to run for a few months until i get the cash to have my heads worked, i may swap in a larger cam when i do the heads.

Your times are almost exactly what my 94z with bolt ons and hot cam ran, the 60's were the same too. I was hoping this car would run the 1/4 faster than the old. GUess I won't be disappointed until I run this set-up.

****, that was just the first time out with it. On another horrible traction night at IRP not to mention. Its not fun when you feel your DRs spin on the big end. Theres definitely more there with tuning and stuff. Its running on the rich side and I'm still not brave enough to power shift it. Gonna do some dyno tuning with a wideband here shortly and see what it runs at the NFME event at IRP in June when they actually prep the track for us. 13.09 is far from the limit on this car. What "bolt ons" were you running and how ideal was the weather? Wait till I get a few more trips in before you start knocking my times.
