Remove the EGR valve from the back of the intake(2 nuts) and clean the heck out of it with a can of carb cleaner. I guarantee its caked, and will run better afterwards.
Also, with that many miles I would probably drain & put new fluid in the diff and the trans.

Can someone prove/explain to me why "no synthetic"? I am nearing 185k on mine and have always and continue to use synthetic, i have yet to see any problems.

You should be okay. I have heard on this and other boards that if you run regular oil and then switch to synthetic at high mileage, you start getting oil leaks.
Not sure why, just something I have heard over and over and over again.

i believe it has to do with the detergents in the synthetic oil eating away at the dino oil grime buildup that is currently holding back an oil leak. if the vehicle has been run the last 200,000 miles with synthetic, it should be fine using synthetics. but you wouldnt know that unless you asked the owner specifically what he has been running. therefore, i would take the same approach and probably just stick to dino oil until i could do a rebuild and use synthetic from that point on.

I bought it in socal, from a kid for 2k. I dont think he owned it very long though, and with the car being from around here those should be freeway miles (like it matters). I want to catch up on all the maintence..i looked at the intake setup..it looks pretty easy to R&R the intake manifold to fix the oil leak..should I do the gaskets like any typical SBC with silicone across the middle??? I'm gonna do hoses, belts, and maybe the opti..I pressure washed the engine bay though and it didnt miss a beat!!!
Re: 200,000 miles...what maintenence should be done?
If the car has 200,000 miles on it and it's still running strong I'd bring a note pad and pen and talk to the owner and figure out what ever they have been doing to the car... because that's excellent. The car has lasted a double life time. SOunds liek a strong motor... I'd ride it smoothly but in the mean time save up for some rebuild parts.... I wouldn't mod it though untill I did rebuild the engine.
Re: 200,000 miles...what maintenence should be done?
Synthetic oils will cause a leak in a car run with conventional oil because the synthetic oil softens the seals in the car and will cause them to free up a little bit. However, fireman is right, if you've been running synthetic the whole time, keep it that way.
Re: 200,000 miles...what maintenence should be done?
I'd put as little money into it as you can because you may sell it before it needs rebuilt. But save up for a rebuild just in case.
Or you may keep it forever.
But to start off I wouldn't go dumping a whole lot into it. Fix whats wrong or broken and drive it.

210,000 on my 94 and have used mobil 1 since the first oil change. No major problems to speak of, but it is getting tired and I will rebuilding it sometime soon.
