2 exhaust questions....(93 and 96)
i unbolted my exhaust from my cat but is there any really secure way to hold it up? i took a c clamp and but it through the flang to the heat shield (i think) thing but i was just wondering if anyone else did it any other way.
my other question is for my buddy, he's got a 96 z28 and we were looking at his exhaust the other day and he only has one cat. he has the 2 pipes from his motor to a y-pipe and only one of them has a cat on it, not the other. is that possible? doesn't that make it have unequal back pressure? and were is a good place to put a cut out on a 96?

Why did you unbolt your exhaust????
If it's for temporary situations (such as the track) than get a cutout. If it were permanent (to make yourself and others deaf) than just remove it, it's dead weight
As for the '96, there are two cats. Hint: look up further towards the very end of the exhaust manifold

yup, that's were it is, why did they put it so much closer than the other one?

#2, the closer a cat is to the exhaust ports, the quicker it will reach "light off" temp and the less cold start emissions will be emitted.
It was the only place to make it fit well I think without loosing too much ground clearance. Also, having it that close to the engine heats it up quicker which gets it working sooner.
I just put MAC headers on and switched from the '96-'97 dual cat design to the '94-'95 single cat style. I like it better, but I'm still a little concerned because my single high flow cat still causes more backpressure than my dual stock converters. I'm thinking of replacing my single high flow cat with a Dynomax bullet muffler.
