2 bolt vs. 4 bolt main

i was thinking about putting a stroker in my 96 firebird i know that it is a 2 bolt main. will it hold up? or should i spend more money and get a 4 bolt? mopar and ford are 2 bolt mains and they stay together just fine.well the mopars do i don't know about the fords. the car ain't going to be pounded on everyday just on some weekends.

I'm running a 2-stud main block. I think you'll be fine under 6500 rpm and 500 hp.

nos or power adder??? get it splayed. it'll be cheaper then going witn a new lt4 block and it will be stronger. the kit is cheap and getting it done is the expensive part. just have them do the work while they have the motor and you'll not even notice the price diff.

Re: 2 bolt vs. 4 bolt main

The metal that a good set of aftermarket main caps are made out of is stronger than the metal the engine block is made out of. Basically if you're not going to turn it hard, go with a 2 bolt stud setup. If you intend to rag the bejesus out of it or use a power adder of any kind, spring for the 4 bolt cap conversion. Also, if you intend to use an expensive crank (4340), go ahead and have the 4 bolt caps installed.

I think it would be easier to find a corvette LT1 then it would be to find an LT4.

>what does this have to do with the price of rice in China???
no one mentioned LT4, but the LT1 Corvette does come with a (weaker than a
splayed 2 bolt) 4 bolt main bearing caps.

I was adding to the "It'll be cheaper then going with a new lt4 block" with another suggestion.

I put 10k miles on a 2 bolt main 550 rwhp car tuning 6700 RPM (ran out of gear in the 1/8th) To me the money can be spent better for 90% of the setups out there.

Re: 2 bolt vs. 4 bolt main

Build it once dude, go with 4 bolt splayed main on the center 3 caps. Your gonna kick your self in the @ss if your ideas change and you want to add n2o or a charger or something. I almost left it 2 bolt and went studs, thank god i didn't cus my future power adder plans changed, as mite yours. Plus better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.
